Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Nyungwe forest national park
Meet your driver guide immediately after arrival at Kigali airport who will brief you shortly about these 3 days chimpanzee trekking safari in Rwanda. Later, transfer to Nyungwe forest located in the southwestern part of Rwanda. This park is one of the oldest rainforests in Africa with a lot of biodiversity including chimpanzees. You will check in at the lodge upon arrival in the evening.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk
After being served delicious breakfast in the morning, transfer to the park headquarters where you will meet park ranger guides to take you through a quick briefing about the dos and don'ts while trekking chimpanzees. He will then lead you to the forest in search of these endangered primates.
Upon meeting them, you will be allowed to spend one hour in their presence as you watch them jump from one tree to another, sometimes mating, grooming each other, feed their young ones and other behaviors. You not only meet these chimpanzees but also other primates, birds and mammals and retreat to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, proceed for a canopy walk only found in Nyungwe forest which is 50 meters above the ground. On this walk, you will meet numerous primates swinging across tree branches enjoying the sun in the evening. Primates here include the red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and many more. Also take more than enough photos while on top of the forest canopy. After the walk, move back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Depart back to Kigali
Be served with hefty breakfast in the morning and the driver guide will pick you from the hotel and drive you to back to Kigali airport for a flight or hotel for overnight stay. There is an option of doing a city tour around Kigali as you wait for your time of flight. During a city tour, take a visit to Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, Inema art centre and Kigali art museum.
