This has promoted tourism in these regions of this easy border crossing, one East African visa provided, and security since there is military support from each other.

While on a combined east African safari, you can take part in different activities/experiences and these among others include;

Gorilla trekking / Gorilla Habituation

Gorilla trekking is normally done in national parks like Mgahinga and Bwindi in Uganda, Virunga in DR Congo and Volcanoes in Rwanda. These national parks are known to inhabit the rare and endangered mountain gorillas whereas there is Kahuzi-Biega national park which is located in Dr Congo known for homing the eastern low land gorillas. Gorilla trekking, therefore, allows visitors to spend an hour in the presence of the gorilla family trekked or visited.

For the case of gorilla habituation experience, visitors are allowed to spend four hours in the presence of the mountain gorilla family. This experience is only done in Bwindi National Park far southwestern Uganda-the Pearl of Africa. Chimpanzee tracking / Chimpanzee habituation

Just like gorilla trekking experience, chimpanzee tracking allows visitors to spend an hour in the presence of a group or troop of chimpanzees. This experience is carried out in Kibale National Park, Kalinzu forest reserve, Kyambura gorge and Budongo forest reserve in Uganda, Nyungwe forest national park in Rwanda, Virunga national park in Congo and Mahale Mountains National Park in Tanzania.

For the case of chimpanzee habituation experience (CHEX), it is only done in Kibale National Park and this allows visitors to have what the daily activities of the chimps are. The experience begins early in the morning at around 6:00am before they leave their nests and follow them as they hunt, feed, breastfeed, and rest during day time. The overall experience can last for about 6 to 9 hours while in the jungle.

Golden monkey trekking

This differs much from gorilla and chimpanzee trekking only that this allows visitors to enjoy the rare Golden monkeys in the Virunga massif. These can be found in the Volcanoes and Mgahinga national park. There is no specific number of visitors that are allowed to trek these rare monkeys and for the case of gorillas, it is strictly 8 people allowed to trek and for the chimps, only 6 people are allowed to trek a group. Also, flashlight cameras are allowed which is not in gorilla and chimpanzee trekking.

Bird watching

There are over 1500 birds in East Africa and this can be proved in only one country take an example of Uganda hosting over 1000 bird species. During this great birding safari tour, you will explore the rare shoe bill stock, the great blue turacos, the Green-breasted Pitta, Abyssinian ground hornbill, and Rwenzori batis, Kivu ground thrush, red eyed dove, fish eagles, kingfisher, vultures, ostriches and many others. All you need is to carry your binoculars and a telescope to enjoy this great activity.

Mountain hiking

This can take between hours to 7 days depending on the elevation of the mountain. Common mountains that can be hiked include Rwenzori mountains to the Margherita peak, Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Sabinyo, Mt Nyirangongo, Mt Elgon, Mt Kenya, Mt Kahuzi and Mt Biega and many more others.

A hike gives a great view of different landscapes, the summit rewards you with the snow-capped, boiling lava lake and much more. Birds and primates won't be missed during this hiking experience.

Game drives

These experiences are done in the savanna areas and they are of three categories - morning, afternoon/evening and night game drives. These allow one to explore the big five animals (lions, buffalos, elephants, leopards and rhinos), big cats and not forgetting the wildebeest migration which is one of the world's wonders.

The wildebeest migration can be spotted in Masai mara national reserve and Serengeti national park in Kenya and Tanzania. Each game drive normally takes about 2 to 4 hours but there are other game drives that take a full day like that of Masai Mara and Serengeti.

Boat cruises

Boat trips happen on large water bodies such as rivers, lakes and water channels. The best experience takes place in national parks where you view wild animals and bird species including migratory birds from far Asia and the rest of Africa. There are two shifts normally carried out in the park premises which are morning and afternoon.

Other boat cruises take place on lakes like Victoria, Lake Kivu, Lake Bunyonyi, River Nile to the source and these will take you to explore the different islands like Tchegera island.

Community tours

East Africa has different and unique cultures and among others are the Batwa pygmies, Masai people, Rwandese and many more. Taking a community tour will expose you to understand the real lifestyle of the people and this can be through tasting their traditional or local dishes, getting entertainment to inform of music dance and drama, and dress code like that of Masai and the Karamojong. Isunga cultural community adventures will offer you the Batooro and Bakiga cultures at the edge of Kibale National Park.

Hot air Balloon Safaris

This experience is done in the savannah national parks such as Murchison falls, Akagera, Masai Mara and Serengeti. It offers the best scenery of an aerial view, endless plains and much more. The hot air ballooning experience takes in the morning and lasts for 2 hours while flying in the basket. After the experience, you are offered a bottle of champagne or glass of juice.

Biking Tours

For travelers who like biking or cycling, east Africa offers the best adventure since you bike around the different local communities full of crater lakes like Isunga community in Uganda, cycling in the savannah National parks and be in a position to spot some wildlife. You can also cycle in the tea plantations, forested areas and much more.

Nature walks

You will encounter different attractions while on a nature walk which takes place in the forested areas while others at the edges of the forests. Encounter waterfalls, bird species, plants and much more.

City Tours
