Day 1: Hotel Pickup, City Tour & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Kigali by our friendly guide. Depending on your schedule, you can enjoy a brief city tour, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the vibrant Kimironko Market, and scenic Mount Kigali for panoramic views of the city. Afterward, depart Kigali for Volcanoes National Park, approximately 104 km away, with a scenic 3-hour drive. On arrival, settle into a comfortable lodge, where you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trek & Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village

After enjoying an early breakfast, you'll head to the park headquarters for a briefing at 8:00 am. During the briefing, a park ranger will provide important information about the trek, including safety guidelines, gorilla behavior, and how to interact with them. Based on your physical fitness and preferences, you'll be assigned to a gorilla group that suits your abilities.

The trek begins at the edge of the lush forest, where you'll start your hike through dense vegetation. The duration of the trek varies, typically taking between 1 to 4 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla group. Your guide and ranger will lead you along the trails, ensuring you navigate the terrain safely.

Once you encounter the gorillas, you'll spend an unforgettable hour observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. This rare opportunity to watch them interact, feed, and move through the forest is a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, allowing you to connect with nature in an intimate and profound way.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and some time to relax and refresh. After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your golden monkey tracking adventure in Volcanoes National Park. Led by experienced guides and park rangers, you’ll trek through the bamboo forest in search of the endangered golden monkeys, known for their striking golden-orange coats and lively behavior.

Once you find the troop, you’ll have time to observe these playful primates as they move through the forest, feed, and interact with one another. The experience offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the biodiversity of Volcanoes National Park beyond its famous mountain gorillas.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and some time to freshen up. Later, begin your journey to Kigali, with a drop-off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport, marking the end of your Rwanda gorilla trekking and golden monkey safari.
