Set out on a 4-Day Murchison Falls Big 5 & Nile Delta Safari Adventure featuring rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, thrilling game drives in Uganda’s largest national park, a boat cruise to the base of Murchison Falls, a hike to the falls viewpoint, and a scenic Nile Delta safari in search of wildlife and the rare shoebill stork.
Highights
Your Uganda safari begins with a scenic drive from Entebbe towards Murchison Falls National Park, passing through the beautiful countryside of central and northern western Uganda. Along the way, you will stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Uganda’s only destination for guided walking rhino tracking.
Enjoy a unique walking safari with experienced ranger guides as you search for southern white rhinos in their natural habitat. During the experience, learn about Uganda’s rhino conservation efforts, the sanctuary’s successful breeding program, and the important role it plays in restoring rhino populations in the country.
After the rhino tracking experience and lunch, continue your journey towards Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest national park covering approximately 3,893 square kilometres. The park forms part of the greater Murchison Falls Conservation Area and is one of Uganda’s most diverse wildlife destinations, featuring vast savannah plains, riverine forests, wetlands, and the iconic Victoria Nile.
Murchison Falls National Park is home to four of Africa’s Big Five — lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes — as well as large populations of giraffes, Uganda kobs, Jackson’s hartebeest, waterbucks, warthogs, hippos, Nile crocodiles, and more than 450 bird species. The park’s most famous attraction is the spectacular Murchison Falls, where the mighty Nile River is forced through a narrow 7-metre gorge before plunging downstream, creating one of Africa’s most powerful waterfalls.
Upon arrival, check into your lodge and relax as you prepare for the wildlife experiences ahead.
Begin the day with an early morning game drive through the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park, one of Uganda’s premier wildlife viewing destinations. The open savannah landscapes provide excellent opportunities to spot elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, Uganda kobs, Jackson’s hartebeest, waterbucks, warthogs, and predators including lions and leopards.
Return to the lodge for lunch before heading out for an afternoon boat cruise along the Victoria Nile towards the base of Murchison Falls. This unforgettable river safari offers close encounters with wildlife gathering along the riverbanks, including hippos resting in the water, Nile crocodiles basking on the shores, elephants drinking at the river’s edge, and a variety of water birds.
At the bottom of the falls, witness the incredible force of the Nile River as it squeezes through the narrow gorge before continuing its journey downstream. Continue with a scenic hike to the Top of Murchison Falls, where you will enjoy breathtaking views of the waterfall, the Nile River, and the surrounding landscapes.
After breakfast, embark on a boat cruise to the Nile Delta, located approximately 20 kilometres from the Paraa area of Murchison Falls National Park. The cruise follows the calm waters of the Victoria Nile towards the point where the river spreads into a vast wetland ecosystem before flowing into Lake Albert.
Unlike the dramatic boat cruise to the base of Murchison Falls, the Nile Delta experience offers a peaceful exploration of one of Uganda’s most important wetland habitats. The area is known for its beautiful papyrus channels, rich biodiversity, and exceptional birdwatching opportunities.
The Nile Delta is particularly famous for sightings of the rare shoebill stork, making it one of Uganda’s top birding locations. During the cruise, you may also encounter hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants along the shoreline, African fish eagles, herons, kingfishers, and many other wetland species.
Return to the lodge for lunch before heading out for an evening game drive across the savannah plains. As the temperatures cool, wildlife becomes more active, offering another opportunity to spot elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, lions, and other animals in their natural environment.
Wake up early for your final game drive through Murchison Falls National Park. The morning hours offer some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities as animals are most active before the heat of the day.
Explore the park’s scenic savannah plains while searching for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, and possible predator sightings. This final safari experience provides a memorable conclusion to your Murchison Falls adventure.
After the game drive, depart Murchison Falls National Park and begin your journey back to Entebbe, Kampala, or your onward destination, with a chance to enjoy lunch en route.
