Morning Session (7:00 AM Departure):

Start your day with an early 7:00 AM pickup from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala, where you’ll meet your driver guide and head to Lake Victoria. Board a speed boat and enjoy a 45-minute scenic cruise across the lake. Along the way, you’ll pass local fishermen using traditional methods and spot various bird species, such as cattle egrets and cormorants. The boat ride itself is a fantastic opportunity to take in the natural beauty and bustling life around Lake Victoria.

As you approach Ngamba Island, you’ll be greeted by the stunning view of this chimpanzee sanctuary. Keep an eye out for monitor lizards and colorful birds like the black-headed weavers, Sacred ibis, and fishing eagles as they feed along the water’s edge. Once you step onto the island, you’ll be taken to the visitor’s center, where you’ll learn about the sanctuary’s history and its efforts in chimpanzee conservation.

Chimpanzee Feeding (11:00 AM - 2:00 PM):

After a short break with tea, you’ll be guided to an elevated viewing platform to watch the chimpanzees during their feeding time. From here, you can observe the chimps as they eat, play, and interact with one another in their natural habitat. The sanctuary’s caregivers will share insights into the chimpanzees’ daily routines and explain their individual personalities. This is a rare opportunity to see these intelligent creatures up close, while also enjoying the island’s diverse birdlife and plant species.

Afternoon Activities (Optional):

For those on the full-day trip, you’ll be given a behind-the-scenes tour, including visits to the chimpanzee food store and clinic, where you’ll learn how the staff cares for the chimps. You’ll also get to assist in food preparation, feeding the chimps under the guidance of a caregiver. You’ll see firsthand how the sanctuary manages the chimpanzees’ diet, which includes a variety of fruits and vegetables like pineapples, apples, and cassava. Return Trip & Equator Stop:

For morning session visitors, the return journey begins at 11:45 AM, while afternoon participants will board the boat at 4:00 PM. On the way back, we’ll make a stop at the equator, where you’ll witness a fascinating demonstration of how the forces from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, affecting the boat's movement. If you're up for a little adventure, you can take a swim at the equator—a perfect spot to cool off and enjoy the moment.

End of Tour:

After your swim or equator experience, you’ll return to Entebbe or Kampala with your guide, arriving by evening.
