Day 1: Arrival and Golden Monkey Trekking in Mgahinga National Park

Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from Kigali, Rwanda, followed by a scenic drive to Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. After crossing the border, you'll be briefed on the day's activities before embarking on an exciting trek to see the rare and beautiful golden monkeys. This 5-hour hike takes you through the bamboo forests at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes, offering spectacular views and a chance to spot these playful primates as they leap between trees and forage for food.

After the trek, you'll check into your lodge, such as the luxurious Mount Gahinga Lodge, where you can relax, enjoy a warm meal, and take in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga National Park

The highlight of your safari awaits! You’ll begin the day with an early breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette. By 8:30 AM, you'll set out with your guide and trackers to find one of the habituated mountain gorilla families in the park. The trek can last anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas' location, but the reward is well worth it—a magical hour spent observing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and some relaxation. In the evening, you can opt for a community walk to visit the Batwa pygmy tribe, learning about their traditional forest lifestyle and rich cultural heritage.

Day 3: Batwa Cultural Visit and Departure

On your final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before heading out for a fascinating Batwa cultural experience. You'll visit the Batwa pygmy community, one of the indigenous groups of the region, and learn about their traditional way of life. With a local guide, you'll discover how the Batwa people have lived in harmony with the forest for centuries—hunting, gathering, and using natural resources for food, medicine, and shelter.

The Batwa elders will share their rich cultural heritage through stories, songs, and dances, offering a glimpse into their deep connection with the forest. It’s an insightful and heartwarming way to understand their role as the original guardians of the forest.

After the visit, your guide will drive you back to Kigali, bringing your unforgettable safari adventure to a close. You’ll leave with cherished memories of your encounters with the golden monkeys, mountain gorillas, and the vibrant Batwa culture.
