Unlike other Uganda gorilla safaris, the 2 days trip to Bwindi begins and ends in Kigali Rwanda, a short drive of about 4-5 hours. It will include border crossing from Katuna to Kabale or Chanika to Kisoro, then you connect to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park a lush forest protected area that is found in Southwestern Uganda.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site lies in Southwestern and it was established in 1991. The park land area measures 331sq.kms, inhabiting up to 120 mammal species, 160 species of trees, 100 fern species, colorful butterflies, 360 bird species such as the African green broadbill, Shelley’s crimson-wings, Chapin’s flycatchers, swamp warblers, to mention but a few.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: From Kigali-border crossing to Bwindi National Park Uganda

A gorilla safari to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park starts early with breakfast at the hotel in Kigali or pick up at Kigali Airport. Before leaving Kigali, you will have a city tour and this will include visiting the museum, the Kigali genocide site, Kimironko market- one of the biggest markets in Kigali.

After the city tour in the modern Kigali capital, settle for leisurely lunch and then head to Katuna/Chanika border to cross to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park 4-5 hours’ drive journey. En-route, enjoy the breathtaking view of both Rwanda exceptional landscape and that of Uganda characterized by rolling hills.

Day 2: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Gorilla Trekking & departure

Enjoy a hefty breakfast, after, leave the lodge with the right attire and boots ready for your gorilla trekking adventure. It will be a long day of searching for mountain gorillas, about 2-6 hours and high energy giving snacks, bottled water is essential. Actual search for gorillas commences at 8:00am after briefing, allocation of gorilla groups and the park guide will lead you through dense Bwindi Forest.

When you meet the silverback and its members, you have one to enjoy a magical encounter and taking pictures. You will be escorted back to the lodge for refreshments, then check out and return to Kigali for departure or stay at the hotel.
