Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and overnight
Immediately after you arrive at the airport, you will be welcomed by your driver who will take you through a quick briefing about the Safari. The briefing will be short and precise as it will consist mainly of the rules and regulations to follow on this safari. After the briefing, you will drive to your booked hotel in Kigali city and check in for your dinner and night's stays
Day 2: city tour in Kigali
Be served with your morning breakfast at your hotel after which you will drive to Kigali for a city tour. On this tour, you will visit the Kimironko market which is the largest and oldest market. While in this market, you will be in a position to buy some locally made souvenirs, fruits and refreshments.
After visiting the market, you will proceed with the journey and visit the genocide memorial center where over 800,000 victims of the 1994 tribal war between the Hutu and Tutsi (genocide) were buried. While here you have a look at the remains of the victims like the skulls, bones and some of the weapons which were used in the Genocide. Drive back to your lodge for your dinner and night's stay
Day 3 transfer to Nyungwe with a stopover at the former presidential palace museum
Have your breakfast at your lodge and after transfer to Nyungwe National Park. Upon reaching the park, you will have a stopover at the former presidential palace museum where you will get to know about king Mutara III Rudahigwa and see the remains of his belongings. Proceed with the journey to Nyungwe Arriving at your lodge for your dinner and resting as you are preparing for the next activity the following day.
Day 4: chimpanzee trekking and transfer to Volcanoes National Park and Iby’iwacu
For you to catch up with time, wake up early in the morning and be served your delicious morning breakfast and after drive to the park headquarters for permits. After you will continue with the drive to the starting point where you will be given a ranger guide who will give you a quick briefing about trekking.
After you will set off and start looking for these primates. Immediately after reaching them, you will be given an hour in the presence of these animals. After you will be given a chimpanzee trekking certificate and then drive back to your lodge for lunch and then transfer to Volcanoes National Park in the evening.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking and visiting Iby’iwacu cultural village
This is the day you have been waiting for. Begin your day with your morning breakfast at your lodge and after the drive head for gorilla trekking. These animals are the closest relatives of man after the chimpanzees and bonobos share 95-99% DNA of the man. You will drive to the park headquarters where you will be given a permit and then drive to the starting point where you will be given a ranger guide who will give you a quick briefing about trekking.
The briefing is all about the dos and don'ts while trekking. Trekking a gorilla family requires a group of 10 people per day and these animals tend to move high in the mountains which call for you to come with your hiking gumboots or shoes. After reaching them you are given an hour in their presence as you are taking photos, and videos and learn more behaviors. After going to the headquarters for your gorilla trekking certificate and then drive back to your lodge for dinner and your night's stay.
Day 6: Drive to Kigali and fly back home
This is the last day of your safari so you will wake up early in the morning and be served a morning breakfast after driving to Kigali which is also the capital city of Rwanda and drive to Kigali airport and fly back home.
