One&Only Gorilla’s Nest is an exclusive luxury resort nestled in the foothills of the Virunga Mountains, where famed primatologist Dian Fossey once worked. On March 4, 2020, One&Only Gorilla’s Nest was officially opened by HE Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda. The luxury resort, located in Kinigi near the breathtaking Virunga volcano range, was inaugurated just three months after its soft opening. On February 27, 2020, President Kagame and the First Lady were welcomed by HE Mohammed Al Shaibani, Executive Director & CEO of the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD) and Chairman of Kerzner International, alongside Michael Wale, CEO of Kerzner International, and other notable dignitaries from Dubai and Rwanda. The opening ceremony featured a traditional Rwandan welcome with drummers, followed by a tour of the resort.
Located at the closest point to Volcanoes National Park, the resort is surrounded by towering eucalyptus trees and peaceful sleeping volcanoes, providing an awe-inspiring setting. Guests can arrive via a 2.5-hour scenic drive from Kigali International Airport or a dramatic 25-minute helicopter flight, offering breathtaking views of volcanic landscapes.
The resort’s design, envisioned by interior designer Hubertus Feit, seamlessly blends the natural surroundings with subtle African influences. The rooms, styled like elevated treehouses, feature wooden decks overlooking the eucalyptus forest and décor in earthy browns with Rwandan imigongo motifs. The bar, restaurant, and spa are separately dotted along a meandering path, giving the sense of wandering through a garden, enhancing the connection to the landscape.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by fragrant roses and towering 60 ft eucalyptus trees.
